Our School Day

Arrival at school

Our gates open at 8.50 am each school morning, when parents are able to drop children off in the playground. From the time the gates are open, children have access to the classrooms and parents are free to leave their children once they have entered the school building. Children are welcome to play outside before the school day starts at 9 am, but they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. A member of staff will be on duty in the playground when you arrive, which enables parents to write in the message book and hand in letters, monies etc.

Playtime

We are very fortunate to have a large playing field, tennis court, playground area and an early years play area for our Reception/Y1 Hedgehog class as part of the Free Flow Play.

Children access these facilities during the day, weather permitting, as follows:

Hedgehogs (Reception and Y1) have access to the Early Year Play area all day, so they can go in and out as they choose. Outdoor learning opportunities are provided to support both the EYFS Curriculum and the Year 1 curriculum. The children have access to trikes, scooters, tennis equipment, garden equipment and other sports equipment and have many role play opportunities.

Squirrels (Y3/4) and Otters (Y2) have a playtime from 10.20 am – 10.35 am. Sports equipment so that the children can play tennis, football, cricket, unihoc, basketball and skipping is available on a rotation basis. The children use the field as much possible (weather permitting) where they have access to the trim trail, monkey bars and climbing wall.

Lunchtime is from 12 noon to 1 pm. The children have all the facilities and equipment described above at lunch time, the children eat their lunch in the school hall.

Hedgehogs (Reception & Y1) and Otters (Y2) have an afternoon playtime together from 2 pm – 2.15 pm. Once again sports equipment is available for children to use.

Home time

The normal school day ends at 3.15pm. Parents are encouraged to collect their children promptly at the end of the school day. The children are asked to remain with their teacher until they can go with the person who collects them. If you are unavoidably detained your child will remain with staff until we can contact you.

See our wrap around and after school club pages for details of before and after school activities.
